About Us

Thank You for visiting our website!

If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Our greatest goal as a Church is that God may be Glorified in all things as we seek to follow His leadership and minister to others.

The Church was started in 1977 by Lewis (Cotton) Combs, a World War II Veteran who served our Country well as he fought in many battles in the South Pacific with the United States Navy. He was saved and came to know the Lord after the war and had a great desire to serve our God.  He was confident that the Lord wanted an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church in Milton, West Virginia. He won the first families to the Lord and held the first services of the church in his home. After a short period of time the Church move into a rented storefront on Florida Street in Milton. In just a few months they were able to purchase property on Florida Street. They broke ground on August 8, 1979 and started building the basement of the new church. They moved into the basement of that building on June 28, 1980.

Pastor Combs wrote this statement to be published in the first Homecoming Bulletin on Sept. 21, 1980

“We know that there is much work to be done before the completion of this building (the church at that time was meeting in the basement, with no roof on the building) but with the establishment of the church, the purchase of our property and the building thus far, we believe we are well on our way to seeing our vision become a reality. We now face a greater responsibility to seek out those in the neighborhood that are lost and win them to Christ. To remain humble and in the will of God. To preach Christ and Him crucified, both at home and abroad so that souls will be saved and Christ will be glorified. To always remain faithful to our duties and responsibilities that belong to the members of this church.”

As time went on the building was finished and became home for the church for 21 years. Several other men were involved in Pastoring the church over a period of a few years but Pastor Combs continued to be actively involved and held to his position as the “FIRST” Charter Member of the Church.

On Sept. 3, 2000 Kim Stone was called to the Church as Pastor. He had been a member of Buffalo Valley Baptist Church in Wayne County West Virginia for many years. He was saved at 19 years old and called to preach at an unusual old age of 43. He was married to Robyn Lugene Robertson in 1979, they have two children and eight grandchildren.

Our Church has sought the leadership of the Holy Spirit and has watched the Lord grow the Church in a remarkable way. The church moved from the 531 Florida Street property to the Mountain State Christian School property in Culloden, West Virginia in December 2005. The Mountain State Property became the temporary home for the church for 9 years. The Lord graciously opened the door for the Church to purchase 5 ½ acres of property at the entrance of Yates crossing road off of Rt. 60 in Milton. Clean up and construction started on this property in August of 2009. Our founding Pastor (Lewis Combs) went Home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2014.

By the wonderful Hand of God, the Church moved into a new building on the Yates Crossing property January 4, 2015. Liberty Baptist Church continues on today with the same vision and burdens that was displayed in the beginning of the church in 1977:

  • To seek out the lost in our community and lead them to the Lord Jesus Christ,
  • To preach the inerrant word of God, ministering to the entire family and emphasizing the importance of Bible based homes.
  • To support missionaries all around the world to Preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ
  • To seek out the old paths.
  • Liberty Baptist Church is an Independent, Fundamental, Missionary Minded, King James Bible, Baptist Church.

Pastor Stone has pastored the church for 25 years. The building that we moved into in 2015 was designed to be the fellowship building for our church. We are praying for the Lord to open the door for us to build our Sanctuary Building in the not-so-distant future.  God has been so good to us as a Church.  We are greatly blessed with many young families and children.  We’re so thankful that you stopped by our website to learn a little about our Church.  We would love for you to visit with us.
